Chamber of Commerce in Marshall Islands supports new fish market

The Chamber of Commerce in the Marshall Islands says a new fish market in the capital Majuro will create more opportunities for outer islands to market their goods.

Representatives from the Marshall Islands and Japan signed an agreement at the weekend for Japan to invest eight million US dollars into building a new fish market.

The Vice President of the Marshall Islands Chamber of Commerce Mike Slinger says the new fish market will not only benefit the outer islands but give business more produce to select from.

"It's not just a fish market. It will also be selling produce from around the islands as well as fish from Majuro and outer islands where they haven't had a focal point where stuff could be sold and people could gather and buy them at a reasonable price. And I think that's a key for the fish market, is they'll be able to provide product to the population at a reasonable price, instead of going through middle men."
