2:36 pm on 31 March 2009

A judge in Samoa is facing a possible police investigation as a result of an alleged assault complaint lodged by his wife against him.

The assistant police commissioner, Papali'i Li'o Ta'eu Masipa'u, has confirmed the complaint has been filed but did not say if a police investigation is being carried out or any criminal charges have been laid.

The assistant commissioner says all information about the matter is handled by the Police Commissioner, Papalii Lorenese Neru, and the Attorney General, Aumua Ming Leung Wai.

Efforts to get comments from them have not been successful.

The name of the judge has been withheld.
