New queries about planned American Samoa air traffic tower

American Samoa's US Congressman has called for the Fono to hold oversight hearings to find why there is a delay in the construction of an air traffic control tower for the International Airport.

Based on a request by Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin, close to two million US dollars was allocated by the US Congress more than three years ago for the project.

The money has been held by the FAA and will not be released until the project gets moving.

During the Congressman's weekend radio programme, concerns were raised as to why there is no tower for Pago Pago.

The airport depends on the control tower at Faleolo International Airport in Samoa.

Faleomavaega says he does not understand why the territorial government has not moved to complete the construction of the tower, when the agreement and funding have been in place for a long time.

He has suggested that the Fono holds oversight hearings on this issue.

He says Faleolo's tower was built for only 400,000 US dollars and he believes American Samoa can do the same.
