Military Commander confirms Fiji has no government

Fiji's military commander Commodore Frank Bainimarama has confirmed the country has no government following the court ruling that his interim regime was unlawfully installed in the 2006 coup.

The Court of Appeal found that under the 1997 constitution, the president lacked the reserve powers which were invoked to legitimise the coup.

In a televised statement following the ruling, the Commodore said the country now had to wait for the President to decide on his next course of action.

Fiji Live reports him as assuring the country that as Commander of the country's military, he'd ensure there would be no disruption to law and order as a result of the ruling.
