American Samoa to counter teenage pregnancy increase

1:39 pm on 14 April 2009

Moves are underway in American Samoa to reduce the soaring numbers of teenage pregnancies.

There were 121 babies born to teenage mothers in 2008, a 30 percent increase on the previous year.

The Coalition to Prevent Teenage Pregnancy says greater parental involvement is needed on the consequences of children having children, and the need to provide supervision and guidance to steer their children from having sex at an early age.
