4:35 am on 27 April 2009

Fiji's Women's Rights Movement, says it's keen to learn about possible security reforms at a United Nations-hosted conference in Tonga this week.

The meeting is to discuss security challenges and responses in Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu.

The Movement's, Virisila Buadromo, says she's looking forward to learn about how security forces can play a more positive role in the community.

"Our biggest concern is for security forces acting outside of their jurisdiction and in the process where they could be manipulated or taken advantage by politicians or others who they feel that they are under threat and then take advantage of the military to carry out illegal activities, like for example an overthrow of a government."
