A 61 year old man in Samoa has been convicted and sentenced to four years in jail for indecently assaulting his 12 year old stepdaughter.

The village matai was found guilty of the offence during a trial earlier this year.

He was described in a pre sentence report as a hard working farther and a regular churchgoer who had raised several children from previous marriages.

But a probation report says the man had shown no remorse, despite a traditional apology he had presented to the victim's family.
