The Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas' Department of Public Health has indicated it will send off-island test results of anyone found with Type A flu for further evaluation.

A public health official told the Saipan Tribune newspaper that the step is proactive, while the department has been assuring the public that as yet there are no local cases of swine flu.

The CNMI has been put on pandemic alert level 4.

Meanwhile, people travelling from airports in places like Guam and Papua New Guinea to Cairns in Australia, are expected to face lengthy delays due to border security provisions around swine flu.

The Cairns airport Chief Operating Officer says stringent new border security measures are in effect with local media reporting 7 people from Cairns are being tested for swine flu.
