New Zealand Pacific business group welcomes change in direction for aid spending

4:47 pm on 4 May 2009

The New Zealand Pacific Business Council wants support from New Zealand's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade for a joint venture with Tonga.

The New Zealand Council's chair, Gilbert Ullrich, says the amended mandate for the aid agency, NZAID, with its emphasis on sustainable economic development, is the best possible policy framework.

He says effective programmes for sustainable development are consistent with the objectives of both the New Zealand Business Council and the Tonga New Zealand Business Association.

Mr Ullrich says the organisations look forward to cooperation which will advance the joint venture scheme and other projects, such as its Buy Pacific Made proposal.
