Solomon Islands Forest Commissioner suspended

9:13 pm on 6 May 2009

The Solomon Islands government has suspended the Forest Commissioner, Reeves Moveni, over allegations of improper conduct.

The Former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Forestry Edward Kingmele last week confirmed that Mr Moveni was asked to leave.

Mr Kingmele says the suspension continues until official investigations into the allegations are completed.

A government investigation team will be appointed shortly to conduct investigations.

The Government has appointed Margaret Salini as Supervising Commissioner of Forest until the Public Service Commission formally appoints a new Commissioner.
