Chair of Forum says future of Secretariat in Fiji under review

The chair of the Pacific Islands Forum says it is evaluating whether its secretariat will remain in Fiji following that country's suspension from the Forum.

Toke Talagi, who is also the Premier of Niue, says Fiji's interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum should have thought harder before he stated that Fiji is part of the Forum and the Forum is part of Fiji.

Mr Talagi says they are still reviewing the future of the Secretariat.

"We are evaluating those. I mean the interim Attorney General just seems to be making comments without thinking about what he is saying. Therefore I don't wish to make any comments about that. We are doing our evaluation as he should be doing his thinking."

Toke Talagi says the decision to suspend Fiji was unanimous and Mr Sayed-Khaiyum was wrong to suggest that the smaller Pacific countries were swayed by Australia and New Zealand.
