The Office of the Attorney-General in Fiji says it has appointed its first new legal professional since the new legal order was established.
A British barrister, James Collins has begun work as the First Parliamentary Counsel in the Office.
The position had been vacant since 2007.
The Solicitor-General Christopher Pryde says they will now be able to attend to legal matters more efficiently as the First Parliamentary Counsel's Office is mainly responsible for the drafting and vetting of government legislation.
Mr Pryde says he intends to appoint two legal officers and a principal legal officer shortly.
