Solomons Disaster Council informs wind-hit communities of lack of funds

The National Disaster Council in Solomon Islands has had to write to several communities in Guadalcanal and Malaita to say that they currently have no money to help with repairs to damage caused by recent heavy winds.

A statement from the National Disaster Management Office says the delay is due mainly to the financial difficulties being experienced by the government.

It says the government recently cut all ministerial budgets by ten percent and this has affected all government activities.

The statement adds that relief for Lord Howe communities and others on Guadalcanal, Malaita and Makira can be expected as soon as money is available.
