Protecting the Pacific's fishing revenues from the impact of the global economic crisis will be one issue covered in this week's meeting of the Pacific Fishing Ministers on Niue.

A spokesperson for the Forum Fisheries Agency, Anouk Ride, says officials last week reached general agreement on policy and it's now time for implementation.

"Certainly what we're hoping is that we can collectively weather some of the impact of the economic crisis, we'll be looking at how we can implement the Tuna Commission's recent decisions about overfishing of Big Eye and Yellow Fin and then finally we'll be looking at how we can use our collective strength to engage more people in controlling illegal fishing and what some of the outcomes from our efforts can be there"
