American Samoa governor establishs a cannery closure Task Force

The American Samoa governor has established a cannery closure Task Force to prepare the ASG for the Samoa Packing cannery closure.

The cannery which employs over 2,000 workers will close September 30.

The group's mandate is to review all cannery obligations that are due and owing to ASG, investigate develop and introduce remedial measures to assist displaced workers, off set projected revenue shortfalls and shore up private sector businesses most affected by the closure.

Several department directors are appointed to the group, along with the President of the Development Bank and the CEO of the American Samoa Power Authority.
