The son of a senior police officer in Samoa has been charged with raping a female university student.
The charges come after public criticism of the police over the past two months for failing to act on alleged offences by senior policemen.
The parents of the alleged attacker have made a traditional apology to the victim's family, which has been accepted.
The police spokesperson and assistant commissioner, Papalii Li'o, says the victim is willing to give evidence to support the allegations of an sexual attack on her.
Police are pressing one count of rape against the accused who is also a student in the National University of Samoa.
