The Fiji Public Service Commission says it has re-employed 204 workers on a contract basis from the more than 2,000 workers who retired when the new compulsory age of 55 was brought in last month.

The PSC chairman, Ratu Josefa Seruilagilagi, has confirmed the workers come from across the board and include teachers, and civil servants from various ministries.

He has told Fiji Village that the transition of new teachers ran smoothly, with the exception of some teachers not being able to be at their posts at the beginning of term two which started last Tuesday.

The new retirement age was introduced by decree in a bid to reduce goverment expenditure.
