Mobile phone users in Samoa will soon see a drop in rates

A big drop in retail rates for the use of mobile phone services in Samoa is expected as a result of the country's only Telecommunication company's success in an appeal against the interconnection rates set by the government regulator.

Samoa-Tel's battle for a fair competition will also see retail rates for its rival Digicel and Gomobile phone services drop.

The company's CEO, Mike Johnston, has described the company's victory as a tremendous win, not only for the company but for all mobile phone users in the country.

The Tribunal decision has urged the regulator, Samoa-Tel and Digicel to work toward new rates that are cost based as soon as practicable, with particular attention to recent relevant international practice.
