Forum trade ministers meeting in Samoa snubs Fiji

3:16 pm on 2 June 2009

Fiji representatives have not been invited to attend a major series of Pacific Islands Forum trade meetings being held in Samoa from next week.

Fiji can no longer attend Forum meetings of any kind since it was suspended at the beginning of May after it failed to meet election deadlines set by Forum leaders at their meeting in Papua New Guinea in January.

The first high-level meeting Fiji was excluded from was the Pacer Plus Trade Ministers' meeting held in Auckland in the middle of last month.

The meetings in Apia consist of Pacific ACP, then Forum Trade discussions at officials level to be followed by the same meetings at ministerial level.
