US Energy Department commits US$28m to American Samoa

American Samoa's congressional delegate, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin, says the U.S. Department of Energy is committing 28.8 million US dollars to American Samoa.

Faleomavaega says the money will hopefully accelerate the creation of jobs by building a clean energy economy under American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

He says this funding will not only save the people of American Samoa money and energy, it will also create good jobs across the territory.

He says this is a significant amount of money, and the Energy Department is moving rapidly to get it to American Samoa.

He says the speed reflects the fact the money is part of the funding Congress and the Obama Administration committed in response to the recession.
