The Dubai-based Emirates Airlines says it has no immediate plans to launch services to Fiji.

The Fiji Times had reported that Fiji's civil aviation director Akuila Waradi predicted the carrier would enter the market very soon.

He said Emirates had approached authorities in his country about holding air service agreement talks.

But the newspaper now reports that Emirates says it has no immediate plans to operate to new gateways in the South Pacific.

The airline's worldwide commercial operations vice president, Richard Vaughan, says Emirates continues to be in regular dialogue with various governments.
