A new independent council is being established in Papua New Guinea to voice the concerns of members of the tourism industry.

The former president of the PNG Tourism Industry Association, Michael Buleau says he is in the process of engineering the new PNG Tourism Council.

He says candidates will be selected from professionals within the industry and the team will be formed within three weeks.

"It's being created to look after the interests of the members who are in the industry. And to try to help them out and guide them along; something we don't see enough of from the government. And you know we're going to have to get professional people to do it. So I'm going to initiate the move I'm going to look for professional people to get in there and handle the show."

Michael Buleau says once the Investment Promotion Authority has approved the council, it will appeal to all industry members to join.
