Fiji confident Tamiflu stocks suffice in current threat

The Ministry of Health in Fiji is assuring the public there is enough Tamiflu to treat and manage Influenza A, H1N1 if it arrives in the country.

The Ministry's Media Liaison Officer Iliesa Tora says it is grateful to the World Health Organisation for donating 15,720 courses of Tamiflu, which arrived yesterday.

Mr Tora says there have been concerns that there was not enough Tamiflu but says the donation is enough for the Ministry to control H1N1 if it does affect people.

He says the supply supplements what the Ministry has in stock at the Fiji Pharmaceutical Services in Vatuwaqa.

Mr Tora says the supply is enough to cover two percent of the total population.

He adds that although the country has no recorded any H1N1 cases as yet, the whole nation must continue with the full alert status as the flu develops.
