New Zealand Fiji community keen to meet with Foreign Minister McCully

Some members of the Fiji Community in Auckland have asked New Zealand's Pacific Island Affairs Minister to organise a meeting with the Foreign Minister over how New Zealand is handling its relationship with their home country.

The request was made on Saturday night at a function for Georgina Te Heu Heu, organised by community members following a submission that included immigration and education.

Annie Raico from the New Zealand Fiji community says Mrs Te Heu Heu must organise a meeting with Murray McCully so community members can express their views on Fiji and offer help.

"New Zealand needs to help Fiji, yeah. But the problem in Fiji, yes, we do need the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the New Zealand Government, to be here in front of the Fijian people so that we can talk it over."

Annie Raico says the Fiji community would happily offer the Ministry of Foreign Affairs grassroots insight on their country.

Georgina Te Heu Heu says she will try to organise the meeting.
