Organiser of accountants' conference in Fiji hopes it will go ahead

The organiser of an Accountants Congress in Fiji says he hopes tomorrow's conference will take place as planned.

The chair of the organising committee, Sikeli Tuinamuana, says they received a call from police threatening to withdraw the congress licence should three speakers, lawyers Richard Naidu and Graham Leung, as well as academic Dr Brij Lal appear.

Mr Tuinamuana says police also asked them to give them advance copies of all the speeches.

He says they have met one condition after the three speakers withdrew and are now trying to meet the other.

"They would like to have a look at the speeches beforehand. We are trying very hard to comply with that. As with all congresses, a lot of the speakers bring their speeches with them, so we are trying very hard to comply with that."

Sikeli Tuinamuana says he's concerned about these conditions, but feels he must comply so the conference can go ahead.
