Multi-million dollar contracts for two major road upgrade works on the east coast of Fiji's main island have been given to a Malaysian company and a local tender.

The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Works, Anand Kumar, confirms that the Malaysia-based Naim Cendera Holdings has been awarded a 17 million US dollar Public Works Department tender for the 11-kilometre upgrading of the Kings Road from Waito to Wailotua.

A local company, Fairdeal Earth Moving contractors, has been awarded the 11 million US dollar contract for the completion of the 29-kilometre stretch from the Kings Road to Lodoni Road in Tailevu.

And Standard Concrete Industry Limited has also been contracted to supply sub base material and base course material for more than 6 million US dollars.

The road projects are expected to be completed by December 2011 and create employment for more than a thousand locals.
