A private Samoan lawyer, Maiava Visekota Peteru, has been hired to represent the parliamentary speaker, Tolofuaivalelei Falemoe Lei'ataua, in the legal action by the Tautua Samoa Party.

The party is challenging the speaker, who declared the nine seats held by the MPs affiliated to the party vacant.

He found that they acted in beach of the Electoral Act

The case is to go to court next week.

The speaker has met Maiava, who is also a former politician, to discuss the situation and to prepare filing a written response through an affidavit.
