From October, Hawaiian Airlines is eliminating commissions for travel agents in American Samoa, a move already taken by major U.S. carriers in the last five years as the airline industry looks at ways to reduce costs.

Daniel Burruss, the carrier's senior director for Alliances and International Sales had originally informed local travel agents in May that Hawaiian will discontinue the commissions on July 1..

But Hawaiian spokesman, Keoni Wagner said the effective date has been pushed back to October 1, 2009 in order to allow time for agents to adjust to the policy.
