Supreme Court in Samoa to hear Tautua Samoa party injunction

11:41 am on 25 June 2009

The Supreme Court in Samoa is set to hear an injunction today brought against the Electoral Commissioner by the embattled Tautua Samoa party.

It follows the removal of all nine members of Tautua Samoa from the Samoa Parliament after the the ruling of the parliamentary speaker, Tolofuaivalelei Falemoe Lei'ataua, that they had lost their seats for forming a party during the term of Parliament.

The nine MPs are also seeking legal redress from the Speaker.

They are seeking an injunction against Electoral Commissioner, Tanuvasa Isitolo Lemisio, because he had issued a public notice about the closure of the electoral rolls for the nine constituencies before the setting of a by-election date.
