Vanuatu has signed a communique with United Arab Emirates, or UAE, establishing immediate diplomatic relations on ambassadorial level.
The signing ceremony took place in New York, with UAE represented by its permanent delegate at the UN Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jaramain.
The Vanuatu signatory was Donald Kalpokas.
The Emirates News Agency reports that the communique formalises a joint desire for political, economic, humanitarian and cultural cooperation.
