American Samoa ban on old car stays

The American Samoan governor Togiola Tulafono is not going to lift a 2007 executive order banning the import of vehicles manufactured before 1999.

Togiola says the current waiver issued in June will not be extended.

His comments come at a time when some individuals were voicing their concerns to lawmakers that they have been informed by Customs that their vehicles, now enroute to Pago Pago, will need to be returned to where they were shipped.

Togiola says anyone who has already shipped a vehicle will be responsible to pay for the return of that vehicle to where it came from.
