French Polynesian court warns Oldham about comments

3:30 pm on 1 July 2009

The French Polynesian judiciary has warned the head of the Moruroa e Tatou nuclear test veterans association, Roland Oldham, that he risks prosecution for the manner in which he criticisied last week's judgment in a compensation case.

In.a statement, the court's president, Guy Ripoll, says Mr Oldham's claim of there being a racist bias exceeds what can be said in criticising a judicial decision.

The warning was issued after the court threw out the cases of eight nuclear weapons test veterans in what was the first such case to be heard in Tahiti.

Mr Oldham said his associates' bids were rejected while similar claims lodged in France were recognised.
