The Papua New Guinea woman who allegedly killed her four children at the weekend in Western Province has been charged with four counts of murder.

The newspaper, The National, reports that police charged Elis Onda, of Kuiya village, after interviewing her for five days.

It is alleged the woman took her children to the Kum River early Saturday morning and drowned them.

She then turned herself in to police who are holding her in custody in Mt Hagen.

Police say the woman's husband will be picked up for questioning after tomorrow's burial of the children.
