A new pre-paid phone card specifically to call Tonga has been launched in New Zealand.

Malo e Lelei landline phonecards have been introduced in Wellington and Auckland.

Paula Mosa'ati of Tonga Communications Corporation or TCC says its product has been created in order to boost Tonga's economy and provide a Tongan product in New Zealand for its people.

"I think the primary difference is this card is from Tonga, the instruction on the cards is in Tongan and it is owned by Tongan company, the owner of the cards is a Tongan company and people using that is just helping the local economy back home."

Paula Mosa'ati says using its service will cost 50 cent per minute, and he says 30 cents of that will be injected into Tonga's economy.
