Samoa's immigration division has requested clarification from American Samoa's immigration department of its new entry permit requirement.

In the past, Samoans could travel to American Samoa with a faxed copy of their entry permit.

But as of Friday, Samoans wishing to travel to American Samoa must now obtain the original permit.

The assistant CEO of Immigration in Apia has supported the new initiative by its counterparts in the Territory after a few entry permits into the Territory were being altered by some Asian travelers.

However Togatalima Faafouina Milford says none of the travelers from Samoa were involved in this scam.

He says his counterparts in the neighboring Territory should have informed them before the new entry permit requirement was put in place.

Meanwhile, the new measures according to several regular inter-island travelers takes more time and is expense.
