Nearly half way through his current term in office, the Ulu of Tokelau, Foua Toloa, says the administration is focusing on developing itself as a nation.
The three atoll nation has a leadership system that sees the position of Ulu rotate on a yearly basis between the Faipule or mayors of each atoll in turn.
Foua Toloa says he would like to see Tokelau have greater power over its EEZ's to increase licensing revenue, but also a plan for the future:
"We know what direction we want to move, without such a national strategic plan I don't really think we can progress, like in the past years, we seem to be going around in circles and remain at the same place."
Foua Toloa says they hope to launch a National Strategic Plan in October.
