Employment issues raised at Fiji Employers Federation gathering

12:06 pm on 23 July 2009

Employment creation and Fiji's future economic growth were among issues discussed by members of the Fiji Employers Federation or FEF who've been meeting in Fiji.

Fiji Live reports the meeting was held to facilitate the member's collective input into government's 2010 national Budget.

The Federation's chair, Dixon Seeto, who chaired the meeting says it was well attended and industries were well represented, with discussions carried out over a number of issues as requested by government in its recent call for public submissions on Budget 2010.

Mr Seeto told Fiji Live the meeting was focused on government's objectives as outlined in its advertisement, in terms of contribution to exports, infrastructure and productivity.

He says the focus was not only on the current year but also on how to expand and accelerate the growth of Fiji's economy looking into the future.

The Federation's registered members comprise over 200 enterprises ranging from the smallest private company to the largest public company, as well as local urban government authorities and statutory bodies, representing over 30,000 employees.
