NZ's prime minister says Fiji won't be main focus of Forum gathering

New Zealand's Prime Minister, John Key, is on his way to the Pacific leaders' summit in Cairns, Australia.

The main focus will be on how Pacific countries are coping with recession.

Forum leaders will receive a report produced by New Zealand and Australia, which makes recommendations on weathering the economic downturn.

Mr Key also says Fiji won't be the main focus.

"I do not want to see the issue of Fiji dominate the talks, although I am confident the Forum will maintain solidarity over the suspension."

John Key says New Zealand will, however, make it clear to Melanesian leaders that it supports Fiji's inclusion in upcoming regional trade talks.
