6:10 am on 10 August 2009

Fiji's Women's Affairs Minister has welcomed the Domestic Violence Decree and the changes made to the related laws saying they were long overdue.

Dr Jiko Luveni told Fiji Village that previously there were no defined laws for domestic violence and perpetrators were not dealt with seriously.

A change has also been made to the Marriage Act which will require compulsory counselling on domestic violence by the marriage officer.
