Solomon Islands MP wants more funding for farming projects

A Solomon Islands MP, Martine Sopage, has asked the government to increase it's allocation for projects for local farmers under it's 2010 development budget.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports that speaking on the 2009 Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2009, Mr Sopage says he was disappointed to see that the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has not been allocated funds in the supplementary Appropriation.

He says local farmers are still waiting for funding of projects from the Ministry for this year.

Mr Sopage also asked the government, in his capacity as the Chairman of Commodities Export Marketing Authority, to prioritise productive commodities such as copra and cocoa for the future of the country's economy.
