10:47 am on 13 August 2009

The Solomon Island Parliamentary House Committee is to investigate a recent decision give politicians wives more than six thousand US Dollars each.

In response to public outcry MP Clement Kengava raised the terminal grant issue as a matter of privilege in Parliament.

The new inquiry will examine broader issues such as the legality of other operations of the Parliamentary Entitlements Committee.

Submissions to the committee regarding the spousal grants are expected from legal experts, businesses and non-governments organisations as well as the public.

A report on the matter is due at the budget meeting at the end of the year.
