The Vanuatu Supreme Court has awarded compensation to six former staff members of the Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation for the way they were dismissed in 2005.

Justice Dawson ordered the VBTC to pay them damages worth a total of 60,000 US dollars.

The six were dismissed for alleged serious misconduct.

The judge says the claimants have been successful in their action and because a substantial portion of the claimants' costs has been as a result of the defendants' failure to address the claim in a proper manner.

The Court of Appeal already ordered the VBTC to pay 60,000 US dollars to the six former employees as severance pay.
