A Samoan shot putter has taken a wild card entry into the womens 100 metre sprint at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin, despite having failed to qualify for her preferred event.

The Daily Telegraph reports that 22-year-old Savannah Sanitoa came last her heat with a 14.23 second time, but it was a personal best.

She says she enjoyed her 22 hour flight from Samoa via America and London to compete on the world stage.

She says sharing the track with the world's fastest sprinters was an unforgettable experience.
