The government of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas says this afternoon it will mark the end of a year long contract to rent generators, that has cost the CNMI over US$6 million.
Since last September, the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation has been paying Aggreko a little over US$500,000 a month for the rental of power generators as corporation conducted repairs after a series of rolling blackouts last year.
A spokesman for the Governor said the ceremony this afternoon will mark the full rehabilitation of local power plant capacity, which is a significant accomplishment for the administration.
He said this was achieved, in part, by successfully using millions of dollars in federal funds from the U.S. Department of the Interior.
