Hundreds of Indonesian soldiers to be sent to guard mine in Papua's Timika

600 Indonesian military personnel are to be deployed from tomorrow, to provide security at the huge Freeport mining site in Timika in Papua.

The Jakarta Post reports the Cendrawasih military commander, Major General Ahmad Yani Nasution saying police had asked him for the assistance.

The request follows renewed violence in the Timika region including the killing of personnel working for the huge mine.
