8:31 pm on 2 September 2009

The Pacific Freedom Forum has called for the strongest condemation of the latest threats against a Fiji newspaper editor, describing it as a serious violation of globally accepted standards of human rights.

A pro interim regime blog "Real Fiji" post referred to the Editor of the Fiji Times, Netani Rika, saying your day is coming , we have one little surprise left for you.

The Co-chair of the Freedom Forum, Monica Miller of American Samoa, says it's vital to keep these threats in the eye of the international community:

"With the funders of Fiji in the international community I think it is very important to keep the information out there and any threats against journalists, editors or their families, I think we need to make comment on and try as much as possible to get the information out into the international arena ."

Netani Rika says his house was visited by strangers last week and there have been odd calls to the office, but he says he is maintaining security for him and his family.
