Criminal charges against 64 Samoan students dropped

11:18 am on 3 September 2009

A District court judge in Samoa has dismissed all charges of wilful damage, actual bodily harm and fighting in a public place, against sixty four students of the Catholic run Don Bosco Vocational School.

A police prosecutor had told the court they couldn't find most of the key witnesses who are also students of Don Bosco.

The sixty four students were arrested and charged by the police as a result of a school brawl last year, during which a college student was seriously injured by a petrol bomb.

Two other students from the school are facing charges of attempted murder as a result and their trial is due to be heard in the Supreme Court later this year.
