Investigative judges in Tahiti have summoned French Polynesia's veteran politician, Gaston Flosse, only hours after the French Senate refused to lift his parliamentary immunity.
They have asked to speak to him in two days as they are probing allegations that two million US dollars was given to Mr Flosse over ten years as kickbacks for him granting public sector contracts to a French advertising executive, Hubert Haddad.
Mr Flosse's lawyer has told Tahitipresse that his client is still in Paris and added that he can only be questioned by the judges and not by the police.
He says the judges cannot put him into detention after having unsuccessfully asked for his immunity to be lifted.
Mr Flosse has asked to be indicted to get access to the evidence gathered during the probe which has seen five people being put in jail.
