American Samoa police say they believe a nightwatchman, found dead yesterday, has been beaten and left to die several days earlier.

55-year-old Willie Lisati's body, covered with banana leaves, was found in bushes near the junkyard where he worked as a nightwatchman.

Police say Mr Lisati's head was swollen and his face was covered with injuries.

Police are trying to locate a male suspect who was seen drinking with the victim in front of a store in Nuuuli on Monday evening.
