American Samoa to explore options for Tonga plot

The American Samoa government is to conduct a feasibility study of land it leases in Tonga to find an appropriate use for its development.

The territorial Government has allocated 11,000 US dollars in the latest budget to determine how to use the land which has been leased, but unused, for several years.

The American Samoa Commerce Department director, Faleseu Paopao, says possible uses include manufacturing or a hotel development.

American Samoa and Tonga made a land exchange deal several years ago and Tonga is using its land in the territory for a market place to sell Tongan goods.
